Hello everyone!
Here's an update on what's happening in our classroom:
Writing: We are finishing up our Informational Writing unit and we are going to celebrate by reading them to some second grade friends. Students have constructed writing pieces on a subject they are an expert at. They are also continuing their mystery stories in Google Docs. Reminder... their usernames and passwords are on a piece of paper that should live in their homework folders.
Reading: We have stations in Reader's Workshop made up of Type to Learn, independent reading and small reading groups with me. We are also doing a VERY FUNNY read aloud called Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. We wrapped up our Social Studies unit on Wampanoags by making posters of the seasons and what each member of the Wampanoag community did during those seasons. You can see the beautiful posters on the second to third floor landing.
Math: We are starting a new unit in math on multiplication and how it ties to division. We continue to work on Xtra Math and Splash Math as well.
Social Studies: We will start our unit studying the Pilgrims when we come back from vacation. We will investigate the Pilgrim's voyage from England and arrival at Plymouth. Several books and multimedia activities will help our students to study what life was like for Pilgrim families. Your child will actually take on a pilgrim persona! We will be visiting "the Pilgrim settlement" when we travel to Plimoth Plantation in the Spring. We will be going on Monday, May 11th so please mark it in your calendar and let me know if you can chaperone!!! :)
