October Update

Hello everyone!

We hope everyone is well. Here are a few updates on what's happening in our classroom:

Writing: We are working towards publishing our first Personal Narratives! In class we've worked to hone in our writing focus on small moments, or seed stories.  Stay tuned for a Writers' Gathering date in November.

Math: We are steadily working through Unit 2 in Math. This unit focuses heavily on number operations and fact knowledge, specifically addition and subtraction. If you're looking for extra practice at home, online addition and subtraction games are always a plus (there are some on this website)! Additionally, if your child knows their multiplication facts, there's no harm in practicing those as well.

Reading: Book Clubs--formerly known as Reading Groups--will start next week! Ask your child what book he or she is reading. We are continuing to read through Poppy by Avi. Ask your child about Mr. Ocax or Ragweed! We have also read some great picture books such as Thank You Mr. Faulker and Officer Buckle and Gloria!

Science: We are continuing our observation of trees and are learning the differences between Conifers and Deciduous Trees.

Social Studies: We are looking at things from different perspectives and learning how to make a map and why that is important.  Ask your child about the classroom map we made!

Allergies: Nurse Kerrigan asks: please remember, do not send peanuts, tree nuts, or products with these in them to class. When in doubt, please substitute.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us. Thanks for all you do!
