Physical Changes of Matter:
The students investigated the physical properties of solids, liquids, and gases. We discussed the five changes of state, observed dry ice, made fog and saw the dramatic effects of liquid nitrogen on a variety of objects.
H2O:Water
We changed a solid into a liquid and a gas!
Dry Ice- It's made out of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), not water. It never gets wet and it does not melt... it goes directly from a solid to a gas- it sublimates!
Then comes Liquid Nitrogen!!! This is WAYYYYYYY too cold for the children to touch so our presenter did all of the Liquid Nitrogen handling! She put a few things into beakers of Liquid Nitrogen such as carnations, a balloon, rubber bands, a banana, and ping pong balls . Check out the videos below and talk to your children about what happened to each of them!
